Trust
Another way to determine how one’s property will be managed and distributed is through the establishment of a trust, or a combination of a trust and a will. Trusts are legal agreements through which a person (the “settlor”) transfers legal rights to certain property to one or several trustees, who are directed by the settlor to use that property for the benefit of a different “beneficiary” (or beneficiaries). Trusts allow a person to transfer property while avoiding the delay and expenses associated with probate (the legal process that gives effect to the provisions of a will)
