Wills, Trusts, Estates, Divorce & Family Law,

We have years of great experinces in family law, divorce cases, wills, trusts and Estates. Marriages, divorces, and child custody determinations shape every aspect of a family’s life, including the financial ones. At Alexander Smith, LLC, we are ready to help clients who are facing issues related to family law and estate law and to explain to each client the interaction between the two. We will work diligently and efficiently to protect your interests as you act to protect your family.

Will & Estates Law

We also work with clients who want to determine how their property will be distributed after their death. One way to control this process is by drafting a will—a document that, when properly drafted and executed, makes a person’s wishes about property distribution enforceable in court.

Property Law

In cases where marriages do end in dissolution, we work with clients in both contested and uncontested divorces. We are prepared to handle any issues that may arise in this context, including restraining orders, child custody determinations, property division, and spousal and child support orders.

Family Law

Before or during a marriage, people may decide to sign prenuptial or post-nuptial agreements. These agreements are contracts that allow the spouses to decide who will control various properties during the marriage, and how the property would be divided in case of divorce. At Alexander Smith Law Office, we are ready to work with clients to draw up agreements that will clearly reflect their wishes and reduce the likelihood of future disagreements over property issues.

Conveyancing

Whether you are facing issues related to divorce, child custody, or spousal or child support, or you are interested in drafting or revising a will, a trust, or a marital agreement, please contact Alexander Smith Law Office.

Trust

Another way to determine how one’s property will be managed and distributed is through the establishment of a trust, or a combination of a trust and a will. Trusts are legal agreements through which a person (the “settlor”) transfers legal rights to certain property to one or several trustees, who are directed by the settlor to use that property for the benefit of a different “beneficiary” (or beneficiaries). Trusts allow a person to transfer property while avoiding the delay and expenses associated with probate (the legal process that gives effect to the provisions of a will)

Divorce

Marriages and divorces redefine families and often demand revisions to existing agreements such as wills and trusts. In such cases, we work with clients to revise or draft new legal documents that will reflect a family’s new reality.
